JTEKT, together with Toyota R&D Central Labs, Inc., succeeded in developing and patenting technology to apply a diamond-like carbon (DLC) film to friction clutches for ITCCs (electronically controlled 4WD couplings), making such clutches more durable, compact, and lightweight. This patent received an Invention Award at the 21 National Invention Awards Ceremony of the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (Jill). This marked the first time JTEKT has received this award.
JTEKT's share of the worldwide market for electronically controlled drive transmission devices reached approximately 50% in 2008, and because ITCCs improve fuel efficiency in 4WD vehicles, they contribute to a reduction of environmental load.
In accepting the award, the JTEKT representatives expressed a desire to continue inventing products that will be helpful in protecting the environment. |
